The state’s growing population, regional water shortages, climate change and the impacts of water deliveries on fish and wildlife all argue for using our water supplies as efficiently as possible. AB 2175 (Laird) would have accelerated existing water conservation programs by requiring a 20% reduction in statewide urban water use per person by 2020 and requiring the Department of Water Resources to set a target for agricultural water use efficiency of at least 500,000 acre-feet by 2020.
