SB 509: Show me the data

CLCV Supported
Passed Assembly 49-22 (8/25/08)
Passed Senate 25-14 (8/30/08)
Signed by the Governor

The public, health experts, and even companies that use chemicals in their products are largely in the dark about the human health and environmental impacts of those chemicals. SB 509 (Simitian) requires the Department of Toxic Substances Control to establish a web-based Toxics Information Clearinghouse as a publicly available repository of information on the hazard traits of chemicals. Data will be collected from chemical manufacturers as well as other states and countries that have developed essential data.
