AB 2058: Plastic or reusable?

According to Californians Against Waste, Californians use over 19 billion plastic grocery bags every year (that’s about 10 bags per person per week), creating almost 150,000 tons of waste in landfills and uncollected trash. Grocery bags and other plastic litter are a major source of marine pollution. AB 2058 (Levine) would have prohibited grocery stores from using plastic grocery bags unless they charged 25 cents per bag or showed that they collected and recycled at least 70% of their plastic grocery bags. Revenues from the fee would have been used to clean up plastic litter.
