Nonstick cookware. Stain-resistant carpet. Food packaging that resists grease stains. Gee, how do they do that? Turns out they use substances called perfluorinated compounds, which have been linked to cancer and reproductive toxicity and are very persistent in the environment. SB 1313 (Corbett) would have prohibited the manufacture, sale, or distribution of any food contact substance that contains perfluorinated compounds in any concentration exceeding 10 parts per billion.
