As an encore to AB 1681 from 2006, which banned lead in jewelry, SB 929 (Pavley) prohibits cadmium in children's jewelry sold in California. Like lead, cadmium is a Prop 65 carcinogen, neurotoxin, and reproductive toxicant. Because children are known to metabolize faster than adults, there is an increased risk of children absorbing these toxins into their bodies through earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.
